Creating Videos for Business - It's all About the Sound!

In case you haven't heard, video is becoming an increasingly important way to market and brand yourself.  Whether or not you want to stand in front of the camera is up to you, but if you follow the stats, video is the future!

One thing I have learned while going through the process of making a video, is that sound makes all the difference in the world.  Many of the on board microphones, or even attached boom microphones, leave a lot to be desired.  It sounds like you're in a cave and standing 200 feet from the camera.  I have purchased several, and wanted to find one that most people could afford.  So far the best microphone I have come up with is the Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone from   The best part is, I only paid $21 for this mic!

Here is an example of a video I created using this mic

To give you something to compare this with, I also purchased the EzPhoto Professional DV Stereo Microphone.  This microphone actually cost me over double the price at $43!  In both of these videos, I was standing roughly the same distance away, in a similar environment, and with the same Canon T2i Camera.

So if you're wanting to make videos that have a professional feel, without paying a professional price, I'd highly recommend the Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone.  It won't break the bank, and you'll come off looking, and more importantly sounding, professional!
