With all of the buzz about Monsanto and Roundup, many people are looking for a green alternative to kill those pesky weeds in their gardens or yards. As many of you have heard or read, Roundup contains an ingredient called glyphosate which is highly toxic and the reason Roundup kills weeks so effectively. However, glyphosate is highly tox
ic to everything else too, dogs, kids, bees, etc. Fear not, I have come up with a couple of solutions for you to use in your garden or yard that are made simply and cheaply at home.
Here's what you'll need:
Non-Toxic / Green Alternative to Roundup Weed Killer
1/2 Gallon Vinegar - White or Cider
1/4 Cup Salt - Just plain ol' Table Salt
2 tsp Dawn Liquid Dish Soap
Pour all of the ingredients into your favorite pump sprayer or spray bottle. Obviously, you can scale this recipe based on the size of your container. Spray the weed with a narrow stream and be sure not to spray anything that you don't want to die. This works best in direct sun when no rain is in the forecast.
From what I have read this works by having the dish soap cut the natural plant oils and then salt and vinegar work their plant killing magic.
